We made new things! New Slow Mass 12" & the debut Jenny Haniver LP!
Two excellent records & fancy t-shirts by Aaron Horkey & Jes Seamans!
Hey! How’s it going over there? We sorta whirred back into action over here and have been scrambling ever since; apologies for the lack of updates on any of it, but 2024 is shaping up to be a BUSY year for us.
For anyone who’s been missing our flatstock work lately—posters, art prints…we know our output chilled out a bit last year—I assure you, my calendar is currently PACKED with an overwhelming number of poster projects; some of these are for the usual suspects, but also a handful of posters for new people & bands we’ve never worked with before. One of those is coming out next week, and I’m stoked for it.
BUT! The Landland Email Thing isn’t about posters this time…we’ve made some new records, we’re all very excited about them, and I’d love to announce them to you now!
The new SLOW MASS 12" EP, “Drift Themes”
First off, we have the first new Slow Mass release in quite some time, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have it find a home under the Landland banner.
“Drift Themes” was recorded over the course of three years in various locations across the country, alongside their yet-to-be-released second full-length.
Conveniently, it’s already up for streaming all over the place, including Spotify:
It was mixed by Scott Evans (Kowloon Walled City, Thrice, Yautja) and mastered by Zach Weeks (The Armed, Cave-In). As always, art by Dnl Hrs and layout by Dan Black (me).
Vinyl pressing is limited to 300 copies in "matchbook" style jackets (inspired by June of 44’s legendary The Anatomy of Sharks EP) on this crazy Coke Bottle Green splatter vinyl. They’re set to ship out whenever we get the vinyl in hand, which should be by the beginning of June.
We’re printing and assembling the jackets by hand right here at Landland, but the record is up for preorder NOW over in our Bandcamp, and for a LIMITED TIME, it also comes in a bundle with a really great new Slow Mass t-shirt by Jessica Seamans. Here’s what all of it looks like:
As described by the band:
“‘Drift Themes’ connects four iterations and elaborations of one initial seed (recorded as a leftover for our unreleased follow-up album). While written as a stand-alone song, so many ideas spawned from its initial creation.
What if the end went on forever?
What if the song birthed another song?
Can the song be reimagined in a way that feels continuous/complementary to it's origin?
Can the sonic weight be shifted in a cohesive manner?
We hope for this release to be viewed as one long piece, with each track providing a chapter mark along it's journey. In some ways, this was the hardest release to finish. Spread out by thousands of miles and recorded in small chunks, I'm surprised we figured out a way to finish this. Determination and love conquers all.”
Introducing the debut Jenny Haniver LP, “Haunt Your Own House”
Simultaneously, we’re also releasing the super exciting first album for Portland’s Jenny Haniver, “Haunt Your Own House.” I couldn’t be more stoked to have a hand in getting this thing out into the world!
Jenny Haniver is the fully-instrumental, post-everything union of Randall Taylor (Amulets) and Eric Nyffeler (Bus Gas, Publicist UK). Taylor and Nyffeler have spent years crafting apocalyptic ambient and devastating drone music, both together and separately, and have brought these influences and experiences to this new undertaking.
Pulling from their love of post punk, noise rock, electronic, and post hardcore, Jenny Haniver merges tight songwriting with the palette of the experimental. The duo paint intense landscapes and stories—all without singing a word. The band’s debut album “Haunt Your Own House” is a dense, genre-blind trip that is never scared of a melodic hook or a euphoric climax.
Here’s our YouTube thing for the first single, “Sunk Costs”:
Vinyl pressing is limited to 500 copies on three different color variants. The album art was made by the great Zach Hobbs and Eric Nyffeler & I worked on the layout. I’ve loved Zach’s work for forever, and I’m so stoked we got to team up on this thing; getting to just PLASTER this thing with his drawings was a real treat.
The gatefold jackets were screenprinted with great precision here at Landland by Rebecca Sunde, and we’re currently moving our way through hand-assembling all of them right here in our studio.
It’s up for pre-order NOW (shipping on or before 4/18), and it’s also available for a limited time in a special bundle with t-shirts made by the inimitable Aaron Horkey, featuring his rendition of an actual jenny haniver:
And just for fun, here’s a list of the rest of our record label catalog, because I’m pretty proud of this weirdo crew of records I’ve been lucky enough to help get out there. The only real common thread seems to be “music I’m into,” but I strongly recommend checking it out and discovering something cool:

Okay, that’s all I’ve got for right now. Two rad records that I’m excited about. Jenny Haniver is currently wrapping up their first-ever tour, and Slow Mass has a handful of scattered shows coming up. Go see them.
I’ll work on getting another one of these out sooner than later…I’m slowly working on becoming a human again, and part of that involves figuring out how to keep in touch with people. There’s a big project out there that I really want to talk about soon, but I think we’re also making a poster for it, so I’ll wait until I know what’s going on with that.
Thanks for looking at this thing, and for being into what we’re doing! I swear there’ll be more drawings and posters very very soon!
Thanks!
Dan
